The Red Wings Win It ALL!!!

This is definitely a Cinderella
story. At the beginning of the
2007-2008 season the Wings had 13 skaters and one hellofa goalie named
"Lefty". By the time
playoffs started the team was down to 8
skaters and one hellofa goalie named lefty.
The decline was do to desertions and injuries.
The assumed coup-de-gras occurred Friday morning, three days before the
playoffs when "The One"
emailed me that he had severely sprained his ankle and didn't know what
condition he was going to be for the playoffs.
He didn't show for the first game and we beat the Canadians 6-3.
He came for the second playoff game against the 'ruins and coached the
team to a 6-5 victory. He came to
the final game against the Sharks and coached the team to a nail biting 6-5 win
in over time. It happen like this.
Once again the game had a maximum
spread of one point. It was a drag
out fight between their hotshots and our hotshots.
Mike, Hans, and Jeremy were having one hell of a day.
I was on the ice, but honestly it was so fast and so fierce I barely
touched the puck. I did hear my
defensive counterpart yell a few times not to pass the puck his way because I
was all over him. I also heard their
goalie begging for help because he and I were all alone at his net.
But none of that turned into points for the team.
The last minutes of the game we were one point ahead when out of
nowhere the Sharks make one last strike and tied the game 5-5.
There was twenty two second left on the clock and the game went into
overtime. The ref dropped the puck
in the middle of the ice. Mike
Farmer ended up with the puck and went straight to the Shark's net.
The only defense between the puck, Mike, Hans and Jeremy was
"One/None" Ross Richards. He
went down and the puck went in. Final
score 6-5. Wings win it all.
The irony is that for the last
three seasons "The One"
has done a great job as Captain of the Wings.
Every season he has marched the team to victory after victory only to
have the final prize denied. This
season he takes the Cup but is denied the pleasure of participating in its
capture. Next time Chris, layoff the
extracurricular activities!
Final Word.
